The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I, Part A, Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged, “is intended to help insure that all children have the opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assignments.”
In Pulaski County, the Title I program works to help schools meet Kentucky's learning goals, attain Kentucky's academic core concepts, coordinate resources to improve education for all students and support school reform efforts.
Title I school mini-budgets help fund the schools' strategies and activities. Title I district money provides technical assistance to the schools and professional development for their Title I staff. Title I funds also may be used for additional instructional staff, extended-time programs and other means of raising student achievement in our elementary schools.
